Undefeated Colombian Bantamweight, and Golden Boy prospect Oscar “El Jaguar” Negrete,14-0, 5 KO’s of Los Angeles, California by way of Tierra Alta, Columbia returned to the ring Friday in the main event of the LA Fight Club Series at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Negrete took on Jose “Flash” Bustos, 11-6-3, 7 KO’s of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. The always tough Bustos had won three in a row since his last loss in 2015 to undefeated Lamont Roach, JR.

Negrete started the fight fast being the aggressor and stayed busy landing combinations but also getting hit with counters during his attack. Negrete stayed busy and out boxed the battled tested Bustos throughout the beginning of fight as Bustos never seemed to find his rhythm. Negrete developed a cut over his left eye in the 4th round that slowly began to get worse as the fight went on. The middle rounds were much of the same with Negrete in control until he was rocked in the 8th with a counter right that sent him into the ropes. Bustos seemed to have gained confidence as the cut above the eye of Negrete was getting worse, causing Oscar to stay away from Bustos for the rest of the round. Rounds 9 and 10 seen a much more confident Bustos as he stood toe to toe the last 2 rounds with Negrete. After 10 solid rounds of boxing the three judges had it 100-90 and 99-91 (twice) for Oscar Negrete. After the fight Oscar stated, “I am very grateful to the judges for awarding me the win tonight.” This victory is a step closer to getting that shot for the world title. Bustos was a difficult fighter, he came to win, and came prepared and in very good condition, and I love opponents like that. Opponents like that challenge me to be better. There was a round where he did catch me off guard, but I felt like I recovered very well. I wasn’t too worried about that round because I knew that I dominated throughout the fight.

In the Co-main event Pacoima’s Emilio Sanchez, 12-0, 9 KO’s battled tough Mexican veteran Hugo Partida, 20-7-2, 15 KO’s. In a 8 round Super Bantamweight bout. The back and forth battle Sanchez seemed to use his speed and ring generalship to stay one step ahead of Partida through the first 3 rounds. At the end of the 4th Partida was struck with a heavy right hand by Sanchez that sent him stumbling to the corner and to the canvas after the bell. Partida survived the 4th and continued to get rocked by heavy combinations throughout the middle rounds. At the end of 8 the judges had the scores of 78-73 (twice) and 79-72 all in favor of still undefeated Emilio Sanchez who moves to 13-0, 9 KO’s Sanchez stated after the fight, “My uppercuts were the key to pulling out the decision. He kept his head low, so I thought my uppercuts were hurting him. He was a tough fighter and a great experience, and I feel after that I can continue facing tougher opponents and keep climbing the ladder in the division.”

Opening up the television portion of the night Niko Valdez, 1-0, 1 KO’s, of Miami Florida took on Micheal Andrews,0-1 of Hobbs, New Mexico. From the start of Niko controlled the pace landing heavy shots to the face of Andrews. Micheal made it through 3 rounds and at the start of the 4th the ringside physician called a halt to the bout deeming Andrews unable to continue after suffering to what seemed to be a broken nose. After the fight Niko stated, I’d give myself a B+ after that performance. I was keeping my hands too far down during that fight and wasn’t putting together my combinations, but I felt very comfortable out there, maybe the most comfortable I’ve felt in the ring. It was very important for me to be patient when I saw he kept coming back, I didn’t want to flurry and unleash my entire punch load at once. When asked about donating his purse to the Susan G. Komen foundation Niko said, I’ve been so blessed this year with so many opportunities, so it felt like the right thing to give back to such a great cause. Because they’re the real fighters – they fight for life, while I just fight for entertainment. Valdez Moves to 2-0, 2 KO’s
