The whirlwind never stops in MMA, especially with its introduction of the most stringent anti-doping governing body in sports; the United States Anti-Doping Agency. With this development, USADA flagged WWE Superstar and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar for a potential use of a restricted agent banned by USADA, the test was reportedly taken from a sample from an out-of-competition test on June 28, 2016, more or less a week before his bout with Mark Hunt.

It should be noted that the UFC used its waiver to allow Lesnar re-sign with the UFC without a 4-month advance testing if a fighter decides to join the organization, the UFC pointed that given the situation that Lesnar wanted to fight “on the fly” and that is almost impossible without compromising the event itself, as a result UFC used the waiver.

To be fair to Lesnar and the UFC, after Lesnar was signed he was immediately enrolled in a battery of drug tests. It was reported that for the first two weeks, Lesnar was tested a total of five times in which the results were all negative.

USADA spokesperson Ryan Madden had this to say:

“With Mr. Lesnar having spoken publicly about the issue, I can confirm that he has been notified of a potential anti-doping policy violation, stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection on June 28, 2016, I can also confirm that the results from his previous samples collected by USADA were all reported as negative. Although USADA will not be providing any further specifics of the case at this time, I can tell you that Mr. Lesnar, as with every athlete under the UFC anti-doping policy, will be provided full due process under the rules.”
“We will get to the bottom of this,” Lesnar said following the announcement, per the Associated Press’ Greg Beacham.

As stated above, Lesnar (and other potential doping violators) was given due process and would be allowed to mount a defense.

As I have stated in my previous column about Lesnar’s future in MMA, he has a bright one but with this development, it throws a monkey wrench all over the whole plan for his MMA resurgence, he has to answer it and answer it quick. The UFC on the other hand bent on “cleaning up” the sport even if it means that its biggest stars get shelved, the integrity of the fight business needs to be top priority and no one should be allowed to bypass that.
