John Cena Jokes & CM Punk Shocks on WWE RAW

By Kevin Nelson

This week’s episode of RAW took place in Albany, New York.

The telecast kicks off with John Cena talking about the attack he experienced last week by CM Punk. He tries to understand why and he alludes to spilling his drink on CM Punk about a month ago…humorous theories from John Cena. Then, expectedly, CM Punk comes out and talks about why he attacked and to everyone’s surprise, he says he does not like Cena.

Usually when you attack someone I assume you don’t like them. Anyways, Punk goes on to explain that Cena takes liberties on his opponents once he defeats them. He cites Wade Barrett and Batista as opponents that he has taken liberties on. Cena challenges Punk to a match right then and there but it is refused. He will not do things on Cena’s terms and says he will stand in the ring later on and call him out.

The first match is Santino Marella facing Ted Dibiase as Santino gets the rollup pin, but not before getting attacked by Dibiase and the gorgeous Maryse. Then the next match is the WWE number one contender, John Morrison, as he faces Alex Riley.

I don’t understand the purpose of this match seeing as though Riley never wins. But it gets even better…as if Morrison wins, he gets to choose when he will get his title shot. Surprise, surprise, Morrison wins and the next segment is Tyson Kidd confronting Daniel Bryan and making his attention known that he is going to be making a run for Bryan’s US Title.

Afterwards, Tyson Kidd faces Mark Henry and loses, which begs the question: Why even go through with a Kidd Bryan confrontation if Kidd is not going to get a push for a title shot? The next match is The Mizz facing Jerry “The King” Lawler in a non title shot.

Some things I don’t get…giving the King another match with the WWE Champ tops the list. The Mizz would lose for the second week in a row to the King as Morrison would attack and the King gets the count out win.

The next match is a Divas tag team match pitting Eve Torres and Gail Kim facing Melyna and Alicia Fox. Last week, if you recall, Melyna slapped WWE Divas Champ Nathalia. The team of Alicia Fox and Melyna would get the win with Melyna pinning Gail Kim. Melyna is getting a push for a Divas shot at Nathalia.

The next bout is a US Title match with Daniel Bryan facing Zach Ryder with Bryan getting the submission win in a very good matchup. Bryan continues to impress just based on his wrestling ability alone. Next match is Randy Orton defeating Sheamus, followed by a Nexus attack on Cena in the ring with David Otunga throwing a Nexus armband in the ring. Punk comes out and picks up the armband and puts it on signaling he is the newest member of Nexus. Signaling the end of the year and the potential for a very good feud in the New Year. What will happen with Wade Barrett? Is he no longer leading Nexus? Is he going to feud with Nexus or Cena? Tune in next week for another episode of raw.

Raw aftermath:

This episode of RAW is much more interesting then last week with new feuds and storylines brewed involving CM Punk and John Cena. As far as Jerry “The King’’ Lawler…I would prefer not to see him in the ring again. I can’t seem to figure out what they’re doing with Lawler.

I am a fan of old school wrestlers like Lawler but his time has passed and unless he is going to get a title shot, I don’t see the purpose of having him face The WWE champ. As far as the overall week: Like I said, it was very good in comparison to last week.

In hindsight, perhaps I was a bit harsh in evaluating last week’s RAW due to the grueling PPV, but I do have a question: Why end the year in Albany of all places?
