Trey Lippe Morrison: Moving Up the Ranks…

Trey-Show-005-300x225Exclusive Interview by “Bad” Brad Berkwitt

On December 10th, Trey Lippe Morrison, 12-0, 12 KO’s continues his boxing career when he takes on Ty Cobb, 19-7, 11 KO’s at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami Oklahoma. Make no mistake about it, this is Morrison’s House, who is also part of the Four State Franchise. Trey, a regular either on The “Bad” Brad Berkwitt Show or being covered by Ringside Report sat down with me to answer a few questions just a week out before his fight.

BB: On December 10th, you face journeyman Ty Cobb, 19-7, 11 KO’s. Ringside Report last year filmed you two sparring here in Tulsa for three rounds. Do you feel you learned anything in that sparring that will help you in your fight against him? If so, what?

Yes…  I need to box him, stay on the outside and use my jab. With him being shorter, he is going to want to be on the inside the whole fight. I like the inside to, but this is a chance for me to get better and use my reach and box him.

BB: How is training going for the fight?

It’s going awesome! We have had a tough camp with sparring against Denis Lebedev and Lateef Kyode for this fight. It’s what I needed to get better. They pushed me good!

BB: Any predictions?

Nope, I’m gonna go out there and do the best I can and what happens happens.

BB: This past September, you had what I called your coming out party  on ShoBox when you destroyed undefeated Ed Latimore who at the time, was 13-0, 7 KO’s. What do you feel that win did for your boxing career?

I feel that I went out there and did the best I could and took the openings I saw and tried to hit it. I hit it, thank God. As far as my career goes, I really don’t know what it did, but for myself, it gave me confidence in myself and in my team. Freddie and I both thought the right hand would be open at the right time, it was, and I’m just happy I saw the opening and could land the shot.

BB: Early on and even today, but not as much from what I have seen, you have been in your dad’s (Tommy Morrison) shadow to an extent. When you came on my show last February, you really wanted to do things on your own and I feel you are doing that. Do you feel at some point, the comparisons to your dad will stop and if so, what will stop them?

No, I don’t think they will ever stop, just being honest (Big Laugh)

BB: If you are victorious in this fight, where do you see your boxing career in 2017?

I don’t know. As a team, Freddie (Roach), Tony (Holden), and myself are taking fights one fight at a time. What happens happens, there is no rush. We will keep moving and taking steps up when everyone agrees and is on the same page.

img_5518BB: Finally, if there is an afterlife and you can either bring your video games or action figures, which one would you pick to take?

I believe there is an afterlife with God and I won’t need those things there. However, if I had to pick, I’d say my DBZ action figures! I’m proud of them!

Hailey Weaver’s (Trey’s girlfriend) I also think he would pick his DBZ action figures. (Big Laugh)
