Saturday night marks the return of red hot, consensus #1 junior welterweight Regis “Rougarou” Prograis, 21-0, 18 KO’s. The fight will take place in His hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. He’ll be putting his WBC title on the line when he faces Juan Jose Velasco, 20-0, 12 KO’s, of Argentina. The implications of the fight don’t just stop there as a slot in the latest version of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) is also at stake. The 140 pound division of the WBSS is lining up well and should deliver boxing fans great matchups.

Prograis has shown that he can be as good as any we’ve seen at junior welterweight over the last several years. He blew out former champion, Julius Indongo, within two rounds. The crazy thing about Prograis is that we’ve not yet seen the best of him. This is partly because every considered ‘step-up’ fight has been handled with relative ease. He’s going to try and keep that streak going versus Velasco who will be attempting to capture his first world title.

Whatever the outcome of the fight it is clear that the buck doesn’t stop there in the 140 pound division. Outside of the WBSS, there are still plenty of intriguing matchups that could be made and tournaments are added icing on the cake so to speak. May the best man win.
