Breaking News: Scott “Cujo” Sigmon Added to March 12th Jimmy Lange Fight Card
Popular super middleweight Scott “Cujo” Sigmon (14-2, 6 KOs) of Lynchburg, VA will make his highly-anticipated Patriot Center debut on the action-packed Jimmy Lange Boxing card set for March 12th in Fairfax, VA, Ice Promotions officials confirmed today. The event, presented by Valcourt Building Services, features eight bouts, highlighted by Main Event headliner and former Contender star Jimmy Lange (34-4-2, 24 KOs) taking on DeMotte, IN’s Jimmy Holmes (19-1, 10 KOs).
Known for granite chin, extreme conditioning and aggressive fighting style, Sigmon will face Robbie “Taz-Mexican Devil” Tovar (15-6-1, 5 KOs) of Lafayette, IN in an eight-round bout.
Never one to back down or remain shy about his intentions on whom he’d like to challenge, Sigmon has quickly made his mark on the Washington, D.C./Baltimore region. The 23-year-old boxer, who always attracts a strong, southern Virginia following wherever he fights, last fought on February 5, 2011 in Charlotte, NC, beating Frank Armstrong via 3rd Round TKO. Selected by fans as the Boxing Along the Beltway’s 2009 “Prospect of the Year”, he fought six times in 2010, including two memorable slugfests. One was an impressive, hard-fought victory over Julius Kennedy with the other an entertaining back-and-forth loss to Jessie Nicklow. His two losses have come at the hands of fighters who had a combined record of 37-2 when they fought.
Meanwhile the battle-tested Tovar, who recently fought for the World Boxing Council’s (WBC) Continental Americas’ light heavyweight title, is looking to snap a two-bout losing streaking. He lost to Adam Jaco last July in Tampa, FL.
The addition of Sigmon adds to an already dynamic lineup featuring many of the area’s most popular and talented boxers. The Co-Main Event will feature a grudge rematch between former world champion William Joppy (39-6, 30 KOs) of Washington, DC and Baltimore’s Cory “Black Ice” Cummings (17-4-1, 13 KOs). Also making his Patriot Center debut is United States Boxing Organization (USBO) Light Heavyweight Champion Mark “TNT” Tucker (15-0, 7 KOs) of Eldersburg, MD who is set to face Larry “Hitman” Pryor (6-8, 4 KOs) of Washington, D.C., now fighting out of Frederick, MD. Fairfax’s Todd “White Lightning” Wilson (9-0, 3 KOs) looks to remain undefeated and earn his 10th win but cagey veteran Dean “Pitbull” White (15-10-2, 3 KOs) of Smithsburg, MD stands in his way. The show also features knockout artist Tony “Mo Better” Jeter (10-2-1, 9 KOs) of Stevensville, MD. Local Maryland heavyweights Ron “Heavy Duty” Gamble (1-0, 1 KO) Abodurin “Bo” Akinyanju (3-1, 3 KOs) will collide, while Charlottesville, VA middleweight George “Wartime” Rivera (11-6, 4 KOs) will face Shakir Ashanti (16-9, 4 KOs) of Greensboro, NC.
