Sam Peter Knocked Out Cold: Boxing Shocker

By Geno McGahee

Robert Helenius, 15-0, 10 KO’s, is a star on the rise in the heavyweight division, and picked up the biggest win of his career with a ninth round stoppage of former WBC Heavyweight Champion, Sam Peter, 34-5, 27 KO’s.

In the beginning rounds, Helenius kept his distance and was slightly weary of the power of Peter, but he knew that Peter, at 260 pounds, could not put forth a great effort down the stretch of the 12 scheduled rounds. Peter came in at his second heaviest of his career, only heavier when he faced Eddie Chambers and came in at 265. Obviously, Peter didn’t train appropriately, which has become the story of his career.

In the ninth round, Helenius landed a left hook that crashed Peter to the floor and would follow up and get the knockout win, putting Peter down and out with a barrage of punches. Helenius now has wins over Peter and former WBO Champion, Lamon Brewster (TKO-8). He has stopped nine of his last ten opponents and is somebody to watch.
