By Sean Farrell

The epic showdown between the phenom Jon Jones and Suga Rashad Evans is on hold once again. UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is out of his upcoming fight with Evans due to injury, and Evans will now face young wrestling prospect Phil Davis. MMAJunie.com confirmed this report and added that Jones is facing a long lay-off due to right-hand ligament damage suffered in his win over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128 in March. The report also stated that the Evans – Davis bout is being targeted for UFC 133 this August.

Rashad Evans, a former UFC light heavyweight champion hasn’t fought since becoming the number one contender by defeating Quinton “Rampage” Jackson by unanimous decision at UFC 114 last May. Evans decided to wait and allow then-champion Rua to recover from knee surgery.

Following an unfortunate sparring incident that injured his knee while preparing for the planned title fight, Evans gave his blessing to his younger training partner Jon Jones to step up and fight for the light heavyweight championship in his place. Jones dominated Shogun to win the title via third round TKO. Since then Evans and Jones have put their friendship aside and have commenced trash talking one another ruining their friendship.

Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis picked up the biggest win of his career last month at by taking a hard-fought unanimous decision over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. The young prospect improved his undefeated record to 9-0 with the victory. UFC 133 has yet to be officially announced by the UFC, but is expected to take place on August 6, 2011 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
