Rise of the Planet of the Apes: An Early Look
I am a huge fan of the original PLANET OF THE APES featuring Charlton Heston as “Taylor,” stranded on a new world with chimps on horses and orangutans in control. Those damn dirty apes even cut out the brain of one of his friends…dirty baboon! What a great movie that was and it inspired a remake in 2001 through the eyes of Tim Burton. What a disgrace of a movie that was! But Hollywood is not ready to give up on the franchise just yet. The APES fans just erased that one from their memory and continued to love the series and now we have what appears to be a much sharper looking movie in RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.
The just released trailer looks very promising. It’s a new spin with the scientists testing some new drug that is supposed to heal the brain, but it has an effect on the ape population. It makes them smarter and soon, they become a real menace to the human race. They are jumping off bridges and attacking helicopters. They are watching people as they sleep…creepy. This drug turns some of them into peeping toms!
The CGI master that did the remake of KING KONG was in charge of creating the apes and from the looks of it, he did a great job. The gorillas look identical to the King Kong of that movie, which I guess we should have expected. A gorilla is a gorilla, with the exception of the lovable Ambam in the UK. He’s one special gorilla.
I’m eagerly awaiting the release of this movie this summer and will be there to see how is does and how is restarts the series. It can’t be worse than the 2001 disaster.
