Divinyls Singer DEAD: Chrissy Amphlett DEATH SHOCKS Music World: “I Touch Myself Singer” Passes Away
By Geno McGahee
Chrissy Amphlett, 53, the lead singer of the Australian rock band Divinyls has succumbed to breast cancer and multiple sclerosis. In 1991, her voice made it into the households of the entire world and ruffled some feathers of some uptight people with the hit “I Touch Myself.”
The racy video with the implied masturbation from the attractive female lead in fishnet stockings and a short black dress was the most talked about music video of the time. She pushed the issue and enjoyed a great deal of success with her unique singing voice and stage presence.
The Divinyls released six albums, with the 1991 single still their biggest hit and a song that will live on. Amphlett left this world too soon, but she left behind quite the legacy.
