RSR Boxing Results: ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights

By Geno McGahee

Delvin Rodriguez, 25-5-2, 14 KO’s, wasn’t spectacular and paid for it, losing a majority decision to Ashley Theophane, 27-4-1, 7 KO’s, by scores of 96-94 (twice) and 95-95. It was an uneventful fight but Rodriguez seemed to do enough to win, although the judges saw it the other way, which is an incredible blow to the career of Rodriguez. Rated at #3 in the IBF at welterweight, he was right in line for a title shot but after this defeat, he will have to fight his way back.

In the supporting bout, Francisco Sierra, 22-3, 20 KO’s, upset previously undefeated super middleweight Donovan George, 20-1-1, 17 KO’s. In the opening round, Sierra landed a punch that seriously rattled George and it set the tone for the fight. George couldn’t phase Sierra. The fight was totally one-sided and a TKO win for Sierra seemed inevitable. In the seventh round, Sierra dropped George. He would arise and at the very end of the round, a one-two struck after the bell and ended the fight. The referee deducted two points from Sierra for the foul, but he was so far ahead that it didn’t matter. He took the fight by scores of 69-62 (twice) and 68-63.
