Guillermo Rigondeaux Comes Off the Canvas to Dismantle Hisashi Amagasa

GRBy Doctor Ibrahim Hussain

The most successful amateur boxer of all time, Guillermo Rigondeaux, tonight pulverized a very capable Japanese contender by the name of Hisashi Amagasa, which resulted in Amagasa’s face looking like a picture from Apple’s PhotoBoothTM on maximum distortion.

Rigo suffered a surprise knockdown in the 7th round, which was followed by an Oscar winning celebration from the Japanese opponent, who will now forever be able to look back and say that he knocked down the Great El Chacal (The Jackal).

Rigo, who was the subject of an enthralling book entitled “A Cuban Boxer’s Journey: Guillermo Rigondeaux, from Castro’s Traitor to American Champion“, was never really troubled after the knockdown, and suffered a further fall which was also given as a count.

This however has done nothing to harm his marketability (and has definitely increased the stock value of Hisashi Amagasa’s). If anything it will help get him fights broadcasted in Europe, as well as the possibility of getting him World Title unification bouts with opponents who are at the moment, quite frankly, running scared.

What was equally impressive was the footwork that made Rigo appear he was on ice-skates. His waist movement was second to none, and his fight style was likened to a more aggressive Floyd Mayweather, JR. when he threw his punches. But as all Cubans do, he showed the slipper footwork that a young Michael Jackson would have been proud of, to help him move out of range or around his opponent, which he did with absolute ease almost all the time.

Rigo also showed an alarming range of power punches, which often changed course mid flow. The fact this title fight was not aired in the U.S. or Europe has brought shame on the beautiful science, and just underlies the problems that are deep rooted within the power players and politicians of boxing.

However, if Rigo keeps winning, then even the oppressors can’t keep him down.
