Last night at a sold out Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, California an absolutely electric crowd witnessed, WBA, IBF, IBO, and WBC interim Middleweight Champion and Los Angeles implant, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, 35-0, 32 KO’s from Kazakhstan, take on mandatory challenger, Dominic Wade, 18-1, 12 KO’s from Largo, Maryland. “GGG” who had a streak of 21 consecutive knockouts coming in, was also defending his Middleweight title for the 16th straight time.

The battle between Golovkin and Wade was expected to have a near sellout crowd of 17,000 to the newly remodeled Forum and true to their prediction, it was close to sold out! The crowd roared “Triple G” “Triple G” “Triple G” which rang throughout the venue. From the start, Gennady controlled every aspect of this fight dropping Wade with a heavy right hand that landed on top of the head at the end of 1st. “GGG” dropped Wade two more times in the 2nd to walk away with his 22nd straight KO and 17th straight Middleweight title defense. “His power is real! It was more than I even expected. I was trying to get comfortable in there. Once he hits you, it makes it very difficult to get comfortable.

I could have done one or two things a little differently in there, but he’s a great champion, and he has everything you need to be a champion”, said Wade. A near sellout crowd of 16,353 roared as Golovkin opened his post-fight remarks with, “Muchas gracias, my friends, I need a big name to please the fans . . . I’m very happy to give the fans a great show, and I’m very happy they came and had a great time”, Golovkin said.

In the Co-Main event the consensus #1 Pound-For-Pound Fighter in the world and WBC Flyweight World Champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, 45-0, 38 KO’s from Nicaragua battled McWilliams Arroyo, 16-3,14 KO’s of Puerto Rico. The heavily favorite Gonzalez came out from round 1 controlling the tempo and landed precise shots at a slow pace in a round that seemed to be a feeling out one where for both fighters. Round 2 found Gonzalez picked up the pace and landed hard combinations to the head and body of his challenger Arroyo, as the champion seemed to have come into his zone. Through round 5, Gonzalez was pitching a shutout, finding his mark and battering the face of Arroyo.

In the middle rounds Roman began to breathe very heavy and in between the 7th and 8th rounds he was looked at by the ringside doctor.

“Chocolatito” although looking sharper then Arroyo, didn’t seem his regular self. The closing rounds saw a slower pace from Gonzalez as Arroyo may have picked up a few rounds in the 9th and 10th by landing hard shots to the body of Gonzalez. The 11th and 12th saw great back and forth action as this fight ended with a bang. At the end the judges awarded Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez the unanimous decision victory by the scores of 120-108 and 119-109 (twice). “This shows I can win either by knockout or going the distance,” said Gonzalez, who has knocked out 38 of his foes. “My conditioning was great. I wanted to fight and brawl and counter, but it was difficult because he moves quite a bit and was hard to hit”, said the champion.
