LaRon Mitchell Steals The Show in Corona

Under the stars of a cool summer night at the Omega Products Events Center, in Corona, California, Thompson Boxing promotions brought fight fans a stacked card headlined by bay WBA-NABA Super Bantamweight Champion Danny Roman, 19-2-1, 7 KO’s. As he battled the ring savvy Mexican Enrique Quevedo, 16-7-1, 10 KO’s. The 26 year old Roman currently sits at #8 on the WBA rankings, was looking to impress and fans and move up in the rankings with a victory over Quevedo. From the start Roman controlled the pace with beautiful boxing and his ring generalship landing precise combinations and heavy shots to the head and body of Quevedo. Through the first 4 rounds Roman had his way with the outclassed Quevedo. In the 5th Quevedo began to pressure Roman, but Roman continued to land heavy counter shots as Quevedo never found his comfort zone. Roman seemed to have controlled every round of the fight, and after 10 round won a lopsided unanimous decision by the scores of 100-90 and 97-93 (Twice) with the victory fans should look for Roman to move up the rankings and possibly fighting for a title sometime in 2017.

In the Co-main event and the fight of the night. Undefeated heavyweight prospect LaRon Mitchell, 13-0, 13 KO’s from San Francisco, California looked to extend his unbeaten, and knockout winning streak against Mario Heredia, 13-2, 11 KO’s of Mexico. Mitchell who is fighting for the 4th time in 2016, survived a hellacious fight against Heredia. Rounds 1 and 2 brought heavy hard hitting action by both Mitchell and Heredia as both fighters came out swinging for the fences, landing bombs on each other. In the 3rd Heredia caught Mitchell with a right cross flooring Mitchell, LaRon beat the count and was on the defensive for the rest of the round. In the 4th Mitchell landed a barrage of huge combinations near the end of the round to hurt Heredia in an all action war between two huge punchers. The 5th round continued to bring action to the fans in attendance as both Mitchell and Heredia continued to land at will on each other with Mitchell slightly landing the more effictive shots. The final two rounds had Mitchell controlling the pace and after 8 rounds the judges scored the fight, 77-74 (Twice) and 76-73 all in favor LaRon Mitchell who ends his knockout streak but keeps his undefeated record alive as he moves to 14-0, 13 KO’s

Also on the card was rising welterweight prospect and the WBA Fedecentro Welterweight Champion Roberto Arriaza, 12-0, 10 KO’s of Los Angeles, by way of Nicaragua as he took on Benjamin Whitaker, 11-2, 2 KO’ of San Antonio, Texas. Arriaza who trains at The Rock Gym in Carson, California looked to stay undefeated and move up from his #10 WBA ranking Friday night against a dangerous Whitaker. In back and forth battle Arriaza and Whitaker exchanged heavy shots as Arriaza used his reach and jab and seemed to out point Whitaker through the first 4 rounds. Arriaza cut off the ring in the middle rounds and began to land the harder heavier shots. Arriaza hurt Whitaker hit a barrage of head shots, but while attacking was cut by an accidental headbutt in the 6th round. The 7th and 8th rounds had plenty of action and had Arriaza continuing to out box Whitaker. After 8 rounds the judges had it 77-75 (Twice) and 79- 73 all in favor of Arriaza who remains undefeated and moves to 13-0,10 KO’s

Rudy Garcia, 2-0, 1 KO Vs Jorge Perez, 2-3, 1 KO (4 Rounds) Bantamweight, Results: Rudy Garcia by unanimous decision, Garcia moves to 3-0, 1 KO.
