Weird Wild and Wonderful: The Midnight Gospel

Have you ever wanted to feel like you’re tripping balls without actually tripping balls? Do you enjoy animation that is a kaleidoscope of chaos mixed with the deepest, darkest questions of the universe and served with weird, wild, and wonderful wit? If so, the psychedelic, surreal, sci-fi series The Midnight Gospel on Netflix is a must watch.

Pendleton Ward – of the popular Adventure Time series – was listening to a meditative podcast by Charles Duncan Trussell called The Duncan Trussell Family Hour when he was inspired to animate again. Using audio from the podcast interviews, he created Clancy. Clancy interviews inhabitants of different simulation planets for his spacecast – space podcast – by using a bio-organic supercomputer. Of course, hijinks ensue.

Guest stars include Dr. Drew, Pauly Shore, Natasha Leggero and a host of others. I would recommend viewing by mature audiences only due to violent imagery and dark humor. Equal parts bizarre and beautiful, The Midnight Gospel will leave you feeling like you just plowed through a ton of edibles while listening to The Doors.
