Grand Jury Indicts Trump Organization and Allen Weisselberg

By Nikki Slusher

A Manhattan grand jury has indicted the Trump Organization and its longtime chief finance officer, Allen Weisselberg, on Wednesday afternoon as reported by The Washington Post.

The indictments are to remain sealed until Thursday afternoon when lawyers for the Trump Organization are expected to appear in court. It is also expected that Weisselberg will be arraigned in front of a state judge and surrendering himself Thursday as well.

Sources report that the charges surrounding Weisselberg and the Trump Organization are centered around the organization’s executives receiving benefits without properly reporting them on their tax returns. Former President Donald Trump is not expected to be part of the indictments directly, however, the charges could potentially bring fines and legal woes to his company. Prosecutors are also hopeful that Weisselberg will now be compelled to exchange testimony that will incriminate Trump in order to reduce his own criminal charges.

Initially, the probe into the Trump Organization was centered on hoe the New York based company had accounted for its “hush money” payment to porn star Stormy Daniels by former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen shortly before the 2016 election. Since then, the investigation has expanded – largely due to Cohen’s own testimony – that the Trump Organization purposely misstated the value of the company’s real estate and assets in order to lower their tax obligations or inflating values to obtain more favorable terms on loans and insurance related to these properties.

Meanwhile the Manhattan DA’s office began focusing on fringe benefits for the company’s executives who failed to pay taxes on such benefits. Michael Cohen, who plead guilty to federal charges in 2018, has since spent time assisting the DA’s office with their probe into Trump, his family, and his business.

This story is still breaking and will be updated once more information is reported.
