If I Had Died When I Tried…

Poem by Joyce Davis

If I had died when I tried to tell you what I would not have seen
Aretha Franklin, Kirk Franklin or seen Cinderella & David Lee Roth which was a dream
I would not have three beautiful girls who are precious gifts to my family tree
I would not know the woes of marriage hurt of divorce and finding out I do love me
No reproductions from my kids my precious grandbabies
Seeing them gives me ultimate joy a hit of happiness that drives me crazy

If I had died when I tried, had I have been successful in that moment
I would have died with hurt and pain and a spirit in torment
If I had died when I tried there so much I would not have learned about me
I would not have learned the joy of billiards and how it makes me feel free
I would have died a failure and given up on the beauties life can bring
If I had died when I tried a beautiful soul filled with life wouldn’t have been allowed to soulfully sing
Now I stick to believing and fighting for me even through tears I’ve cried
So much joy, hope, laughter, happiness, and love I would have missed out on if I had died when I tried
