22 ½ Years Was Not Enough for that Racist Piece of Trash Derek Chauvin!

By Bethany “BST2” Armstrong

Murderer of George Floyd and former Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, was sentenced to twenty-two and a half years for second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. The sentence was weighed by the fact that this murder was committed in front of children and because Chauvin abused his position of trust and authority. Prosecutors wanted 30 years and the Chauvin’s lawyer pushed for probation.

Second-degree murder is considered murder that is not premeditated but rather “caused by the offender’s reckless conduct that displays an obvious lack of concern for human life.” Third-degree murder is considered gross-negligence that results in death. Second-degree manslaughter is considered “the person’s culpable negligence whereby the person creates an unreasonable risk, and consciously takes chances of causing death or great bodily harm to another.”

Jargon aside; while 22 ½ years does not seem to be long when compared to the number of years George’s daughter will live without him or the brutality of his death, it is a victory. Police officers kill an average of 1,000 Americans per year and rarely face criminal charges. Let us hope this is the dawning of a new era in police accountability.
