Is It Safe To Go Back In The Water?

Back in the former part of my life I was married to a Pastor. We lived a life of praying daily together. We did not watch what we called secular TV or listen to secular radio. Everything was Christian based. We dedicated our lives to God and the ministry. I have since been divorced and currently don’t go to any churches. I still see myself as a Christian. I do not criticize people who do not believe in God or practice other faiths. I believe that it is a personal journey that people should be allowed to walk on their own.
When Trump became president, he was backed by Evangelical leaders. I believe the first one to endorse him was Jerry Falwell, JR. who has since had to resign from being head of Liberty University because a guy named Giancarlo came out saying he and Becki Falwell were having an affair and Jerry liked to watch. Jerry and other Evangelical leaders rallied behind Trump because he had the “white” message that they wanted to run with. I cannot judge whether or not Trump was a Christian but the way he treated others as president, the hatred he displayed, the racism, and the consistent lying made me suspect that Christianity was not high on his list. None of his actions supported Christian values and I could not understand why they would back a guy who lied so often on camera. They said it was because he supported Roe VS Wade. They wanted to get rid of abortion. For those of us who do follow Christianity the one thing we all know is that we are given free will so all those Christians that go after LGBT or people that have abortions are directly going against God’s word. That is a story for another time.
Cut to the 2020 election. Over 400,000 people have died from Covid. Trump is ignoring the Covid problem because he is actively trying to steal the election. Even after he lost to Joe Biden and the world went out and danced to celebrate the ousting of a dictator like president he was still lying about what was happening and they were backing his lie. I used to watch Kenneth Copeland during the times of me being married and only watching Christian TV as well as Pat Robinson when I was younger. So it confused me how these people turned away from what the Bible teaches in order to serve a man. The Bible strictly warns against worshiping false idols yet here they are worshipping him. They even made a golden statue of Trump and people were going around praying with it and bowing before it.
Seeing all these things is unsettling. I have since wanted to go visit a church to show thanks that I made it through Covid when so many of my friends have died but I am afraid to go into those shark infested waters. My sister had one ministry tell their people that if you do not accept Trump you are not a Christian. Wait, what? You mean to tell me that if I don’t bow down to a man I am not a Christian? Wrong! They would have to show me that in the Bible. It still leaves me at an impasse. How do I go back to a church when so many of them backed a liar? I keep wondering how many Christians have this problem. Trump also did the same to the Republican party. So many of them refuse to be Democrats but refuse to follow Trump so have no place to go. A lot of us ask if it is safe to go back in the water or will we be marooned on an Island forever.
