Ye With Weary Hearts…

By Joyce Davis

All of us have experienced the terror of the previous administration. We have seen him do things that we saw as criminal offenses but as a president he got away with things. He infamously said “I can shoot someone on Fifth Ave and not lose any supporters”. Seems to me he was right about that. His supporters are die hard supporters and they will defend him no matter what he does or says. They even support him knowing he stole money from them. Well his campaign stole money from them. They still love and support him despite that fact.

During his administration we saw attempts to make him pay consequences for his bad behavior but the Republicans chose to protect him instead of protecting America from him. He even said why are you guys not out protecting me? During his impeachment he wanted them to go on tv and tell everyone that he was not wrong for what the phone call.

Sidenote: anyone paying attention during that time noticed that Senators came out and said if this is what he did then that would be terrible and a few even said action would have to be taken. By the end of it they were all behind him. Except Romney he was good for a soundbite here and there but he was no hero. He was the guy that just wanted to stand out as the person doing right when it was not going to affect the scale one way or another. Other than Romney they all stood together with what I believe they knew was wrong but they did not want to come against a president that had the heart of the base and would use that base to get rid of them all. Trump had taken away the power of the Republican party.

Hurt people hurt people. You saw the Republicans lash out more at the Democrats and get away with it. A new pattern was forming in our political system. They found that they could be unruly and their voters would love them for it. Thus began an era of no consequences. We all watched so much happen that we wondered what the heck was happening. How are they getting away with any of this in public view? It made us all skeptics. We no longer believed that there are consequences for people in power. Trump pardoned so many people that were terrible people. He also pardoned people that helped him conceal crime by doing a crime. He then pardoned them for that crime. Yes, that in itself is obstruction of justice but as the president of the United States Of America you have absolute pardon power so you can use your power to have someone cover for a crime for you and then keep them out of jail by pardoning them. How can any of us ever believe again that people in power will ever face consequences for their actions?

I want to tell you, ye of weary hearts, do not fret. I may not be sure that he will ever be charged with the treasonous act of inciting a mob of his supporters to attack the Capitol; in hopes of stopping them from certifying Joe Biden as the legitimate President of the United States. Which I might add they were successful for a time in preventing the certification that was supposed to happen on the 6th but happened on the 7th instead. The Republicans are doing their best to change the history of that night. That night put aside I need you to know NY will go full speed ahead with eventually indicting Trump. No, I do not know one person in the DA’s office. I am not someone who does this type of journalism for a living. What I am is someone who pays attention to things and what I have observed is a District Attorney who fought to get information all the way up to the Supreme Court. I saw a District Attorney who went after Michael Cohen and didn’t even give him a break of no time for telling on Trump. People have invested years of their life into investigating Trump. You don’t run a race and get close to a finish line and decide to turn around and go back because you changed your mind. They are in it for the long haul and Allen Weisselberg was the final key to knowing that. Frankly I thought he was given immunity back in 2018 along with David Pecker but apparently I was mistaken. With Weisselberg being arrested they reached a bridge they could not turn back from.

The biggest question now is what happens if he is convicted of his crimes? Will the justice system jump in and protect him because they can not let a former president sit in jail? I say this to a justice department that could not care one bit what I have to say but here it is: Trump spent four years doing crime in public. If I, a person who barely followed politics, recognized the crime then you know that the entire world saw it. They saw him get away with it all. If you want to prove to the world that we are not hypocrites you do not step in and you let him do his time. Merrick Garland it is way past time for the DOJ to get rid of the memo that says a sitting president can not be indicted. This memo gave license to presidents to do as they pleased. We need them to be afraid of consequences.

I can not tell you how long things will take but I can tell you he will go through some things and there is nothing he can do to stop it.
