“Late Show” Announcer Alan Kalter Dies at 78 – Entertainment News
Alan “Big Red” Kalter, the longtime announcer for THE DAVID LETTERMAN SHOW passed away October 4, 2021, in a Stamford, Connecticut hospital. No cause of death was disclosed.
Alan Kalter (born March 21,1943), began his stint as announcer on LETTERMAN on September 4, 1995 and remained until Letterman’s retirement in May of 2015. In addition to his announcer duties on the “Late Show”, he performed in scripted bits which resulted in a myriad of reactions from Letterman, such as amusement and confusion etc.
Throughout much of the 80s Kalter did hundreds of voiceovers for national radio and television commercials and was the lead announcer for USA Network. He had also been an announcer for many television shows including TO TELL THE TRUTH (1969-1978), THE 25,000 PYRAMID 91974-1991), THE MONEY MAZE (1974-1975), and was the announcer for the 45th Annual Grammy Awards in 2003.
