Fight Predictions: Carl Froch vs. Glen Johnson
The last chapter of the Showtime’s brilliant if grossly extended Super Six Tournament promises to be a dramatic affair. You have arguably two of the top four super middleweights on the planet looking to make it to the last round of the tourney. A win means a glass slipper and a trip to the ball with Andre Ward and a possible future showdown with IBF champion Lucian Bute for boatloads of cash and all of the marbles. But first, the verbose two-time WBC titlist Carl Froch, 27-1, 20 KO’s has some serious business to sort out with former three-time light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson, 51-14-2, 35 KO’s. RSR’s elite team of writers, interviewers and pugilistic prognosticators provide you with their expert opinions on the outcome.

Johnson has been a welcome addition to the mix of the Super 6. He is tough and has flashes of brilliance when he fights because he always seems to be the underdog. In order to win, Johnson will have to put combinations together. As for Froch, he has been looking a little run down in his confidence level. He didn’t look as sharp as he could against Kessler. Prediction: Johnson by 12-round unanimous decision

Glenn Johnson by upset SD. Then on to a rematch with Bernard Hopkins!

Whilst Johnson looks fit and at his best for some time I think The Cobra will win in a fairly straightforward fashion. For Johnson to win he will need to be at his best from the first bell and I think dropping the weight and his age will go against him. My predictions have been awful of late though and I just hope this time that Carl’s boxing mastery that has already claimed Pascal, Dirrell, Taylor, Reid and Abrahams sees him through in a late finish – either by TKO in round 9 or beyond or by UD. Johnson will hang on that long – I think!!!

Carl Froch to control Glen Johnson and win by wide UD…the slower reflexes of the warrior will be too much and Froch will take the fight.

This almost certainly appears to be Glen Johnson’s last big chance on the big stage, so a win is imperative. For Carl Froch, it can be argued that he has never met anyone as effectively relentless and experienced, so it remains to be seen if he has the skills to stay a step ahead of the former three-time light heavyweight champion, and if he has the discipline to stick to a strategy that doesn’t include extended inside exchanges. I’m going with Froch to eke out a close unanimous decision, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Johnson somehow managed to win.
