2023: The Year of Spy Balloons and UFOs

By Nikki Slusher

The New York Times released an updated report on the balloons and UFOs that have taken over the news coverage the last two weeks. According to the Times, Senior U.S. officials believed the spy balloon was from China to spy on American military bases in Guam and Hawaii. The surveillance balloon was shot down over South Carolina earlier this month and retrieved by officials for examination.

Since the first sighting Washington has been rapidly analyzing the object to gain a further understanding of China’s military goals — both new and old — as communications between the two world superpowers continues to decline in the already troubled relationship. Increased distrust has also strained relations as China claims the balloon was simply for research purposes of the geographic region.

Yet the confusion doesn’t end there. There’s been at least three other unidentified flying objects that were shot down over North America that reports claimed are unlikely to be surveillance apparatuses. Officials are still working on identifying them and their purpose but at this time there’s more questions than answers.

I’m not sure if we’re entering a full fledged World War III or that aliens are invading but either way I didn’t have any of this on my 2023 Bingo card. If this news has been stressing you out my best advice is don’t look up.
