“Benson” Actress Inga Swenson Dies at 90- Entertainment News

Actress Inga Swenson, known for her roles on the TV series BENSON (1979-1986) and SOAP (1977-1981) passed away July 23, 2023, in Los Angeles, of natural causes. It was reported that Swenson had been in declining health for the past 6 months. She was 90.

An actress of both stage and screen, Swenson performed on Broadway and was nominated twice for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performances in 110 in the Shade and Baker Street.

Swenson spent seven years portraying Gretchen Kraus on the long-running series BENSON. She also was known for playing the conniving revenge-seeking Ingrid Svenson in 8 episodes of the sitcom SOAP. She also played Kate Keller, mother to Helen Keller, in the OSCAR-winning film THE MIRACLE WORKER (1962).

Her additional film and TV credits include THE DEFENDERS (1961-1965), BONANZA (1959-1973), GRIFF (1973-1974), BARNABY JONES (1973-1980), VEGAS (1978-1981), NORTH & SOUTH: BOOK 1 (1985), NORTH & SOUTH: BOOK 2 (1986), HOTEL (1983-1988), NEWHART (1982-1990), THE GOLDEN GIRLS (1985-1992) and LIFE WITH LOUIE (1994-1998).
