Burnt or Cooked: Ricky Burns Vs Nicky Cook – Boxing in the UK

By Samaarah Choubak

With some big fights going on in the states these last few weeks we hit back to the UK, this weekend. The British have been talking and buying tickets to watch an amazing line up by Frank Warren and things are getting heated up in the UK.

Things went quite smoothly at the weigh in Liverpool U.K considering someone is going to get “Cooked” or “Burnt”. It was pretty quiet and with some boos and cheers, all the fighters looked in good condition and shape and are ready.

Ricky Burn’s has made a promise that he will stop Cook tomorrow night and make a statement in the third defense of his WBO Super Featherweight Title.

“I think it will be a fair fight – a tough fight, but I do see myself wearing Nicky down in the later rounds.”

“You find when you go out looking for a knockout it never happens, so my attitude is that I just want to get in there and win by any means necessary,” Burns told Press Association Sport.

Cook said:

“It is important, but I try not to look at it that way whether you look good or you look bad, so long as you come out and you’ve got that belt coming home with you in the car, that is the main thing.” “I feel strong, I’m on form and training camp has gone really well,” he told Sky Sports News HD.

Another fight in Liverpool is the long awaited Murray v Mitchell, after Mitchell’s defeat against Katsidis last May, he says he’s in shape and this time things could not of gone better ”

“I’ve had a shut-down, locked-down gym, so no-one’s seen me in the gym. I’ve just been right on form as you can tell by my body now, the weight is perfect.

“Talking is cheap, (fists) talk. I’ve been in many fights, many wars, and your hands talk.”

With the winner of this fight possibly fighting Brandon Rios, the challenge will be illuminating, does Murray want it more or does Mitchell? One of them will have to show some spark as eyes from over the Atlantic will be on Liverpool tomorrow, the performance of two will be have to be magnificent and if Murray wins he will get the opportunity to shine with a shot at a world title, the one that belongs to “Bam Bam” Rios who beat Antillon over the previous weekend.
