James Toney Wins Heavyweight Gold: Boxing News

By Geno McGahee

The 43 year old, James “Lights Out” Toney, 74-7-3, 45 KO’s, came into his fight with Bobby Gunn, 21-5-1, 18 KO’s, at an out of shape 248 pounds, but it didn’t matter. Even at that age and that weight, the class difference was the story. Toney controlled Gunn for four rounds until his opponent retired from a broken hand in between rounds 4 and 5.

Toney picks up the IBU title for what that’s worth. Toney loves the sport and will probably keep fighting, but he is not a factor in the heavyweight division, despite his occasional calls out to the Klitschko brothers.
