Miguel Cotto: STEAMING MAD – Floyd Mayweather Gift Decision?

By Geno McGahee

Miguel Cotto, 37-3, 30 KO’s, “completely disagrees” with the unanimous decision win for Floyd Mayweather, JR., 43-0, 26 KO’s, last Saturday night in Las Vegas. To most observers, Cotto gave a valiant performance but a losing one. The final judges’ scorecards had Floyd winning by scores of 118-110 and 117-111 (twice).

Although the scorecards were heavily in favor of Floyd (RSR had it 116-112 for Floyd), the fight was competitive and Cotto did do damage, bloodying the nose and mouth of “Money Mayweather,” but it didn’t appear to be enough.

Cotto’s legal advisor, Gabriel Penagaricano stated that Cotto believes “he won” the fight and that “the (way that the) judges saw the fight is an insult to the reality of what happened there.”

Miguel Cotto gave a great performance and did manage to win some rounds. Some rounds were close and there is room for argument, but at the end of the night, it did appear that Floyd had done enough to clearly win.
