Do you agree with Roy "Sharpshooter" Bennett's premise of his article that Alvarez is a fraud?

Lies, Damn Lies, And The Truth…

For five rounds on Saturday night Canelo “Catchweight” Alvarez looked like a fat man lumbering down the supermarket isle trying to snatch at the free goodies being pushed past him on a food cart. Lunging, stumbling, swinging, missing, he looked like someone trying to move in a medium of molasses.

It was a kind of comedy within which there was a constant lingering risk to his tormentor. Amir Khan skittered around the fat man like a small boy trying his best to irritate an older brother, darting in and out while pecking away at the caricature in front of him. The catchweight king looked nothing like the boxer who had weighed in at 155lbs on the scale only 24 hours previously. Instead we were left to ponder why a redheaded behemoth ringer had been drafted in overnight to take his place.

In contrast Khan looked like he’d mistakenly turned up to the wrong argument. He appeared almost adolescent next to his hulking opponent. Tricked into facing a man who had lied about the truth of the arrangement. And therein lay the danger.
This contest was a mismatch from the second it was agreed upon. For there are no level playing fields where Canelo Alvarez is concerned. The lies about not being a true middleweight aided and abetted by his promoters will continue but, after this debacle in the desert shrine that is Las Vegas, we should all be able to clearly see the truth of the matter.

The lineal middleweight championship is currently held by a man with no honor. There is nothing about this hollow victory which deserves celebration. This is no different from Arturo Gatti’s sanctioned destruction of the hapless Joey Gamache in 2000, or Danny Garcia’s equally terrible KO victory over the much smaller Rod Salka in 2014. What do these contests share in common? These victories were all achieved under the shadow of deceit. Much smaller fighters matched against bigger harder punching opponents. Every conceivable advantage given to the house fighter to ensure a tick in the win column.

Gatti entered the ring a full 15 pounds heavier than Gamache for their bout. Joey suffered permanent brain damage after being violently dispatched and never fought again. Rod Salka was outweighed, outsized, and brutally disposed of by Garcia inside two rounds. Both knockout defeats mirrored Khan’s crushing loss to the fat man.

Listen. I’d like to know what Canelo’s unofficial weight was on fight night? He looked bigger than I’ve ever seen him. I’d venture that he weighed in the region of 180 -185lbs. Maybe more.
I’ve seen Khan get knocked out like this too many times. One has to wonder if some form of hidden damage from all the brutal KO defeats may comeback to haunt him in a future bout. For his own safety a lengthy lay off and a thorough medical examination of the fighter must be carried out by the relevant authorities before he is allowed to fight again. A return to welterweight should figure into any prospective plans.

Canelo’s post fight war cry warning to Gennady Golovkin is an empty sound of fury signifying nothing. Don’t hold your breath for him to sign a contract committing to that bout. It’s a fight that the fat man cannot win. And he, his handlers, and his promoter know it.

The catchweight king will celebrate long into the night with his supporters. Let them continue to deceive him about his ability and true status in the division. The man known as “GGG” is waiting patiently to disabuse him of such notions.

The fat man is living as lineal middleweight champion on borrowed time. I, for one will shed no tears if the WBC strips him for his insolence, or when the referee’s count tolls the end of his reign at the hands of the Kazakhstan bomber.
