Brock Lesnar Vs Mark Hunt Fight Preview
UFC 200 is filled to the brim with the addition of WWE superstar and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, the anticipation for the premiere event is palpable. Lesnar’s opponent will be Mark Hunt, the New Zealand native known for his vicious KO power.
Lesnar may not be looking to campaign in the heavyweight division, it seems he will be fighting in the UFC for a “one night only” arrangement to augment the potential revenue Conor McGregor would have brought in. A match against Mark Hunt is not easy though, Hunt is a tough veteran with one punch KO power that ended UFC’s who’s who of heavyweights.
But Lesnar has fought a heavy handed hitter before in Shane Carwin. In that particular fight, Carwin blasted Lesnar with bombs, Lesnar was clearly hurt and outclassed in the striking aspect of MMA but he was able to weather the storm and come back in the second round where Carwin slowed down, Lesnar capitalized by taking Carwin down with ease and submitting him via arm-triangle choke.
The UFC matched Lesnar with Hunt for the classic grappler versus striker background, Lesnar is a former NCAA Division I collegiate wrestler out of the University of Minnesota, Hunt, on the other hand is a former K-1 Grand Prix Champion (K-1 is one of the premiere kickboxing promotions worldwide), his knockout prowess and iron chin translated well in MMA, Hunt is not easy to takedown either which may be a problem for Lesnar.
For Hunt to spoil Lesnar’s UFC return, he only needs to avoid Brock’s initial takedown and grinding, he must also pace himself to be able to withstand Lesnar’s ground and pound. If Hunt is able to survive Lesnar’s initial barrage, he will be able to pick his shots accurately, he can easily cut Lesnar’s movement since Lesnar is not adept at footwork and striking defense, Hunt may be able to finish the fight early.
As for Lesnar, it is imperative for him to take the “Super Samoan” down into his world of wrestling, Hunt is not easy to takedown but Lesnar has a high rate of takedown success , the only problem is keeping his opponent down. If Lesnar succeeds in the initial attempt to grapple, then he can do as he pleases. Lesnar is a huge heavyweight that moves like a welterweight, his athleticism will win this fight as long as his chin can withstand a Mark Hunt punch then Lesnar will come out the victor.
A win for Lesnar would be a huge boost for the UFC and may also allow him to go back and forth with WWE since he can assert his legitimate MMA status.
A victory for Hunt is important in a very volatile heavyweight division, he can easily step up and fight the winner of the Stipe Miocic versus Alistair Overeem title match to cap-off his campaign in the division.
