Yoshihiro Kamegai Vs Jesus Soto-Karass II Supporting Roman Gonzalez Vs Carlos Cuadras on September 10th
The long-awaited rematch bout between (28-10-4, 18 KO’s) Jesus “Renuente” Soto-Karass and (26-3-2, 23 KO’s) Yoshihiro “El Maestrito” Kamegai will take place on Saturday, September 10 at the Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles. The boxers first went head-to-head on April 15 in Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles in an epic match dubbed the “Fight of the Year” candidate. Online boxing odds will be at the edge this time as the HBO World Championship Boxing prepares to televise the fight with a 0:00p.m. ET kick off.
Golden Boy Productions and Teiken Promotions will present the 10-round super welterweight rematch clash. The bout precedes the world championship contest between unsubdued boxers WBC Super Flyweight World Champion Carlos “Principe” Cuadras (35-0-1, 27 KO’s) and WBC Flyweight World Champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (45-0-0, 38 KO’s).
Kamegai expressed his appreciation to Golden Boy Promotions, K2 Promotions, and Teiken Promotions for the upcoming rematch as well as the honor to be the undercard fight for Gonzalez vs Cuadras. He pointed out that he respects Soto-Karass and his style of fight as a warrior and he is ready to come back strongly for an exciting fight for boxing fans in Southern California.
Jesus Soto-Karass expressed that having a rematch against “the warrior” Yoshihiro Kamegai and believes they will impress fans with a great show just like in April. According to Oscar De La Hoya, even though fans thinks that the bout in April was a contender for an epic Fight of the Year, the vengeance that will be displayed in September will prove the genuine winner between the two great warriors.
K2 Promotions’ Tom Loeffler expressed his excitement about the upcoming match because of the fact that the first fight ended in an epic draw. The media as well as fans demanded for a rematch and the venue is suitable because it is known for decades of unforgettable fights. Furthermore, the bout will go down as the fourth successive time Golovkin and Roman have boxed on an HBO-televised date, which proves it as a ‘winning combination’ for the toughest international boxing this year.
The judges made a split decision draw in the first bout in which fans had an exceptional viewing area in Belasco Theater to put up with the demand. Kamegai and Soto-Karass delivered an exciting brawl even though many fans highly expected Tokyo’s Kamegai to emerge victorious in April. After 10 violent and deserting rounds for fans, the fight ended with the judges settling for a draw without anyone complaining because, to be fair, either fighters did not deserve a loss. Fans would come out as the victors on September 10 since the rematch will take place due to their demanding gestures.
Kamegai’ s career fights have mostly taken place in Japan. He made his American debut fight with a loss against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero as a candidate of the 2014 “Fight of the Year”. Even though the 33-year-old Kamegai has negligible history fighting in the U.S., he has an exciting fighting style and spirit, along with a good-sized fan base, which will expectedly grow for the upcoming fight. The ex-OPBF welterweight titleholder has already fought Alfonso Gomez and Johan Perez; therefore, defeating Soto Karass would be the prime success of his almost 11-year career.
Soto-Karass 15-year career has seen him fight many world champions and challengers, such as Keith “One Time” Thurman, Devon “The Great” Alexander, Andre Berto, Marcos Maidana, Yuri Foreman, “King” Gabriel Rosado, Alfonso Gomez, David Estrada and Mike Jones Selcuk Aydin. He was once the titleholder for NABF and WBC Continental Americas titles. He recorded wins over Andre Berto, Vince Phillips, Selcuk Aydin, and David Estrada. Since 2001, he has proved to shake off most hard punchers and respond with aggressive punches against such opponents. A win over Kamegai would keep the former world title challenger on the right track in the coming years.
