Manny Pacquiao Easily Defeats Brandon Rios: Pacquiao by UD in China – BOXING NEWS & HBO PPV Results

By Geno McGahee

Manny Pacquiao, 55-5-2, 38 KO’s, easily cruised to a unanimous decision win over the slow, plodding, Brandon Rios, 31-2-1, 23 KO’s, by scores of 120-108, 119-109 and 118-110. From the opening round, Pacquiao used speed and movement to confuse Rios, who could never get set or even find Manny at any time. Rios turned out to be the perfect opponent and Manny showed that he still has something left, but this may have been more of what Rios wasn’t rather than what Pacquiao was.

Pacquiao can now look ahead to a possible showdown with Floyd Mayweather, JR., or possibly a rematch with Timothy Bradley. At this point, you can expect for Bob Arum to match him very carefully. Don’t expect Juan Manuel Marquez to be in there again with him. Rios was a great choice considering his shortcomings and Floyd a great choice considering the money to be made. Tonight, Manny made 18 million, tax free. Yes, you heard it right…because it was in China, he is walking away with 18 million, free and clear.

The rest of the card was a disgrace. Top Rank PPVs follow the same pattern. They sell it on the main event and then have strictly showcase outings for their prospects. The undercard was so bad that it doesn’t even deserve mention and to price this at 60 dollars was ridiculous. There wasn’t much bang for the buck here.
