Amnat Ruenroeng Vs John Riel Casimero Face Off for the IBF Flyweight World Title – Boxing News

ARBy “The Aficionado” Alan J. Kindred

This weekend many boxing people will be focusing on the HBO card featuring well known fighters Tim Bradley and Jesse Vargas as they vie for the vacant WBO Interim Welterweight world championship. While that is a marquee fight between welterweight contenders, the fight between #2 RSR Flyweight Amnat Ruenroeng, 15-0, 5 KO’s, vs #15 RSR Flyweight John Riel Casimero, 21-2, 13 KO’s, is the best match up of the weekend. These two gladiators will be battling for Ruenroeng’s IBF Flyweight world championship.

Ruenroeng came to the attention of hardcore boxing fans in his world title defense against the highly touted double gold medalist Zou Shiming, 6-1, 1 KO back in March of this year. Ruenroeng proved versatile and complete as he thoroughly out boxed Shiming despite having a flash knockdown scored against him in round 2. Before defeating Shiming, Ruenroeng also secured victory over very tough contenders in #6 RSR Flyweight McWilliams Arroyo, 16-2, 14 KO’s, and former champion #3 RSR Flyweight Kazuto Ioka, 17-1, 10 KO’s.

Casimero is not without his own credentials as a fighter, even if some might think of him as the underdog. He was a long time staple in the Jr. Flyweight division at the elite level. He has owned the Interim WBO and IBF world titles at 108 pounds, as well as the regular IBF world title. He made 3 successful defenses before losing his title on the scales failing to make the 108 pound limit against Mauricio Fuentes in May of last year. He then decided to move up and challenge for Ruenroeng’s IBF Flyweight title. Casimero is undefeated in the last 4 years. With a victory he would become a champion in two different weight classes.
