Packy’s World: Andre Berto has Become the RODNEY DANGERFIELD of Boxing, Jack Dempsey, My Pal Al & Dean Martin Posthumously Awarded The Chutzpah Award

Oy Vay are you going to hear it today… As I sit out on my terrace looking over the Biscayne Bay, I look back on the many days of this summer and think in my 85th year, what a life I have seen with such an amazing wife, friends and boxers I have been so blessed to either have met or become friendly with. I think of a song Frank Sinatra recorded called September Of My Years. I truly am in those now… Side note to Bradley: I love that Ryan O’ Neal wore a Ringside Report Shirt and supports the site and The “Bad” Brad Berkwitt Show. I met him years ago on trip to Hollywood and he was very friendly in the short conversation I had with him.
Andre Berto… I feel sorry for this young man because he is the B Side of course to the fight with Floyd Mayweather, JR., but what was he supposed to do, turn down the big paycheck? The boxing world is treating him like the Rodney Dangerfield of boxing. No, he should have grabbed it and there is no shame in that. The shame is on Floyd Mayweather, JR. for picking an easy opponent in his last fight and then for his TMT to try and sell it to the public as something worthy of a price tag of $74.95 on it. Sadie and I will be going to up to Bel Harbor the day of the fight and spending that $74.95 and more on things we both want.
Jack Dempsey… Oy Vay do I miss eating at his restaurant back in the day with Al. He had the best steaks in NYC. Jack used to come over to our table whenever he saw Al and would put on like he was going to fight him. Al would stand up, all 5’2” of him and fake a punch that Jack would drop to the ground from. The crowd in the restaurant would go silent and next thing they would see was Al and Jack taking a bow for a performance that fooled them. Patrons would go nuts and applaud.
My Pal Al (“Bad” Brad’s Father) … The last year of Al’s life he went to visit Bradley in Virginia when he was still in the Navy. Bradley, to Al’s surprise had planned out the entire trip of events. One of the events was Al was taken to a comedy concert that starred Steve Harvey in Washington, DC. Al, loved comedy and as I have said many times in “Packy’s World” was the funniest SOB I have ever known. Well, Al calls me when they get home from the concert where he saw a heckler try to mess with Steve Harvey and Harvey from Al’s account went off using 4 letter words mixed with funny zingers. Al loved that kind of stuff….
The Chutzpah Award… The Chutzpah Award is posthumously awarded to Dean Martin. Here was a man with no ego, took no shit and was a guy who men wanted to be and women wanted to be with. Al and I hung with him many times when Frank played the Fountainbleu Hotel in the late 50’s and 60’s. Frank adored him and so did Al and I. We will never see the likes of Martin or Sinatra again, I can tell you that.
