Whatchagonnado: Andre Ward P4P Best? I Don’t Think SO! & Adrien Broner Getting Fitted for a Orange Jumpsuit Minus the Krunk Grillz!

whatcha-gonna-doBy Roy “Sharpshooter” Bennett

The Last American Cowboy

I’m late to the party. Through no fault of my own. The bouncer wouldn’t let me in. He aggressively insisted I wouldn’t be going anywhere until I’d said the words, “SOG is the greatest!” I didn’t have any choice. I told him what he wanted to hear but the truth is I lied. Andre Ward was competent and somewhat cautious in beating Sullivan Barerra this past weekend. But on the evidence put before the jury I say he’d better take another tune up fight before going anywhere near the “Krusher” that is Sergey Kovalev. If you ask me Ward seems to have lost a step. Put it down to ring rust if you want. Maybe the extra weight has slowed him down a notch. Maybe his reflexes have dulled due to inactivity. Maybe the boxer who lit up opponents in the Super Six 168lb tournament in 2011 is gone for good. Maybe Ward sat on the shelf too long. And maybe I’m gonna tell that bouncer what I really think. Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe I need a few beers first.

A Clown For All Seasons

Adrien “Floyd Went to Jail So I Want To Go To Jail Too” Broner is doing his level best to flush his boxing career down the can. He was recently seen brandishing a hand gun on social media while proclaiming, “Forget billions….I’m about bullets!” Here’s the thing. Many young fighters would sell their souls for the opportunities Broner has been repeatedly given. “The Problem” has become….a problem. And he continues to alienate hardcore and casual boxing fans with his nonsensical behavior.
At this rate he’s on a nosedive to the state penitentiary unless he learns to control himself. The question is can he pull himself out of it before it’s too late? In his next fight Broner takes on Britain’s Ashley Theophane on April Fools Day. I say the joke’s been on us. Here’s hoping Theopane pulls the upset. The boxing spotlight needs to shine on someone who truly deserves it.
