Salita Promotions Detroit Brawl: Prefight Coverage – Boxing News

Detroit BrawlBy Richard “Doc” Pratt

The full card for the next installment of Salita Promotions Detroit Brawl coming up on July 16 has been announced.

The main event will have the WBO #5, IBF #5, WBC #7 and current NABF heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz’s, JR., 27-0, 18 KO’s in a 10-round, non-title bout against Josh “Josh Dempsey” Gormley, 22-4, 21 KO’s. This will be one of the biggest fights in Detroit in many years and should provide some excellent entertainment!

Scheduled on the undercard will be 22 year old Giorgi Gelashvili, 4-0, 2 KO’s fighting out of Brooklyn NY facing a veteran on the comeback trail, Eric Hall 8-9-1, 4 KO’s of Durand, Michigan in a super lightweight six-rounder. Hall’s last fight took place at the Motor City Casino Detroit against a lightweight out of Ypsilanti, Garvin Crout, 11-10, 6 KO’s and had him winning by 3rd round TKO after knocking Crout down three times in the round. He looked sharp as I covered the card from ringside and he hopes to be on a successful comeback after stepping away from the ring for 5 years in 2008. Since 2015 he’s had an SD loss, SD draw and the TKO.

Also on the card will be Detroit favorite and cruiserweight prospect Demetrius Banks, 7-0, 4KO’s facing off against Eric George, 4-11,4 KO’s. He’s coming to Detroit by way of Niagara Falls, New York. I witnessed Banks last two appearances at this venue and was impressed with his abilities and strength.

Next up we have another Detroit favorite, Middleweight Dorell Van Horn, JR. 9-0, 6 KO’s vs. Ryan Soft, 3-5-1, 1 KO. I was at Van Horn, JR’s last fight in May of this year against Francisco Javier Reza, 13-17, 10 KO’s where he scored an impressively quick, first round KO!

Serdar Hudayberdiyev, 2-0, 2 KO’s of Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan, will faceoff with Steven Andrade, 3-0, 2 KO’s of Atlanta, Georgia in a welterweight four-rounder.
I was present at both Serdar’s victories which were a 4th rd.TKO and a 1st round KO in Feb. and May of this year respectively. He’s quick and accurate.

Two other fights of note for the Detroit area is the pro debut of “Southpaw Prince” Gheith Karim, Dearborn, Michigan. He’s a three-time national amateur champion. His opponent will be welterweight Dean Walsh, JR., 0-2 of Monroe, Michigan and recently signed by Dmitry Salita; bantamweight out of Detroit, Jarico O’Quinn, 1-0, 1 KO faces Sergio Aguilar 0-3 of Miami Beach, Florida, in a four-round bantamweight bout.

Rounding out the night we have a 4 round super bantamweight bout pitting Zach Shamoun 3-0-1, 3 KO’s of Royal Oak, Michigan against Jose Elizondo 1-0 of San Antonio, Texas and unbeaten cruiserweight Clarence Dubose 3-0, 3 KO’s from Detroit against Karinn Davis 2-6, 2 KO’s of Jackson, Michigan in a four round cruiserweight battle.

This should prove to be one of the best cards in Detroit in some time providing some excitement and will be well worth the ticket price!

Until Next time. Keep your gloves up and elbows in!
