From Manila, Philippines, The IBF junior bantamweight title belt has just exchanged owners this weekend after Jerwin Ancajas, 25-1-1, 16 KO’s outpointed the defending champion McJoe Arroyo,17-1, 8 KO’s by a one-sided unanimous decision. The scores were 118-109, 115-112 and 117-110, all in favor of the 23-year-old Ancajas from Panabo City, Davao del Norte.

Ancajas was able to establish his stiff right jab in round one and was able to land hard left hands over the top which marked up Arroyo’s face noticeably. Arroyo was reduced to trying to turn the bout into a brawl, and succeeded briefly in the middle rounds. However, Ancajas’s strength was able to take control of the fight down the stretch, and was punctuated when he sent Arroyo through the ropes in the eighth after a body shot. Ancajas was able to hurt Arroyo again in the ninth round after another series of body punches sent to the defending champion to a knee.

The newly-crowned champion Ancajaras made it clear after the fight who he would like next. “All the fighters now want to face Roman Gonzalez. So I’ll go with the trend. I also want that fight,” said Ancajas.

Ancajas has now joined IBF flyweight titleholder Johnriel Casimero, WBO junior featherweight titleholder Nonito Donaire, JR. and WBO bantamweight titleholder Marlon Tapales as the only current world titleholders from the Philippines.

The number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, 45-0, 38 KO’s is scheduled to face defending champion Carlos Cuadras, 35-0-1, 27 KO’s for the WBC World Super Flyweight title on September 9th, from the Forum in Inglewood, California. Gonzalez is currently the WBC Flyweight champion, and is seeking to become a four-division world champion. Cuadras will be defending his crown for the seventh time when the two undefeated champions clash next weekend.
