Brock Lesnar Shocking WWE Wrestlemania Update

By Sean Farrell

Despite Brock Lesnar’s public dismissal this past week of the apocalyptic rumor that he was very interested in taking a major part in this year’s WWE Wrestlemania event, the newest issue of Power Slam magazine reports quite the contrary. According to multiple sources, Lesnar attempted to persuade UFC officials to grant Lesnar permission to work a major storyline with World Wrestling Entertainment that would conclude at the annual wrestling mega show. The proposed deal from WWE stems from his mini-confrontation with Mark Calloway aka The Undertaker following UFC 121 on October 23, 2011 after Lesnar lost the UFC heavyweight championship to current champion Cain Velasquez.

According to Power Slam magazine, Lesnar had previously agreed in principle to a three-appearance deal with the WWE. Lesnar would have appeared on two episodes of Monday Night Raw in the weeks prior to WrestleMania XXVI, ending with the climax of a final appearance at the April 3 pay-per-view extravaganza in Atlanta, Georgia. WWE officials are willing to pay Lesnar anywhere in the ball park of slightly over seven-figures for the three appearances. However, the deal would require approval from the UFC because Lesnar is under UFC contract for one more fight. UFC officials reportedly denied Lesnar’s request to return to WWE which could lead to major issues.

Hypothetically speaking, if Lesnar goes on to face Junior Dos Santos and defeats him Lesnar becomes the UFC interim heavyweight champion. With Lesnar the interim champion he would no longer be under UFC contract, letting him return freely to the WWE and leave the UFC heavyweight division in shambles. If Lesnar fights, wins, and leaves the UFC will be without a champion due to Velasquez’s injury, no number one contender for the belt as the interim title is to be unified, and would have no choice but to take the interim title from Lesnar and have another interim title fight. The situation with another interim title fight is there are really no logical contenders. Dos Santos was the number one contender until taking this fight with Lesnar, Shane Carwin is a few wins away from another shot, and Frank Mir hasn’t been very active and was already beaten by Carwin horrifically.

The remaining top ranked heavyweights worthy of the shot are in Strikeforce so its irrelavent. The UFC could make Dos Santos vs. Carwin but the drawing power for that fight isn’t worth the hassle unless it’s a Co-main event. The only reasonable solution to this mess would be if the UFC was smart and if Brock still had the desire to fight for the UFC. The UFC should agree to loan Brock to the WWE for Wrestlemania under the condition that Lesnar signs a two fight contract. That way, if Lesnar did happen to beat Dos Santos and became the interim champ, he would face Velasquez in a rematch for the unification of the belts. Brock Lesnar would get what he wants in the money, the UFC gets what they want in the money and more PPV buys with the new contract and highest draw, and the WWE gets what they need to stay as relevant as they can and that is Brock Lesnar oiled up dropping F-5’s all over the place.
