Eddie Hearn announced yesterday on Instagram, that Daniel Jacobs will be taking on Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF Middleweight World title in New York City, with a date to be announced soon.

This fight comes after rumours that Jacobs would possibly be facing Canelo Alvarez.

Obviously however, Canelo has recently announced – and is in training for – his rematch with Gennady Golovkin in September.

Therefore, Jacobs and his team have taken the next best opportunity, which is fighting in an attempt to regain another World title.

The task at hand however, will not be straight forward, as Jacobs takes on a tough and hard hitting Ukranian by the very long name of Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Derevyanchenko is a former World Bronze medallist as an amateur and also represented his country at the 2008 Olympic games.

This hard hitting Ukranian is also ranked as the 5th best middleweight in the world by the famous Ring Magazine and sits at the top of the IBF’s rankings as the #1 contender for their highly desired red and gold belt.

Despite the Ukranian’s pedigree and current perfect record (12 fights and 12 wins), Daniel Jacobs will be hungry to prove that he still belongs at the highest level in the middleweight division.

As well aiming to prove his top position in the division, he will be looking to put on his best performance to date, in order to set up a future showdown with the winner of “GGG” Vs Canelo!
