Prince Philip, Husband of Queen Elizabeth II Dies at 99 – World News
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh died April 9, 2021, at his home in Windsor Castle, Windsor, United Kingdom. No cause of death was disclosed. However, The Duke was recovering from a recent hospitalization following surgery for a heart condition. He was 99 years old.
Philip was born into the Greek and Danish royal families on June 10, 1921. After being educated in France, Germany and The United Kingdom he served the British Royal Navy from 1939-1952.
During this time he was corresponding with then thirteen year-old teen Princess Elizabeth, who he had first met in 1934. He would marry Elizabeth on November 20, 1947. Philip left military service when Elizabeth became queen in 1952, having reached the rank of commander, and was made a British prince in 1957. Philip and Elizabeth had four children: Charles, Prince of Wales, Anne, Princess Royal, Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Prince Edward, earl of Wessex. He was the longest-serving of the British monarchy and the longest-lived male member of the British royal family. In August of 2017, at age 96, he retired from his royal duties.
