Having a Conversation with a Donald Trump and “Q” Supporter!

By Ron Signore

I had a moment recently that I think shocked me into a corresponding state of speechlessness. I was having a conversation with a strong follower and believer in Donald Trump and the Q following. First, I find it odd that this person is on that side of the spectrum from certain aspects, specifically COVID, but completely understand his alignment as a traditionalist on the republican side of the spectrum. And I should also mention, while we do not talk politics often, even our disagreements don’t rise to the levels of tension and hatred we see in everyday America.

From the COVID perspective, I love having his knowledge on the current state because he is on the front lines as an ICU nurse. He has told me the realities of COVID and what I can ultimately agree to as some of the exaggerations put forth by the media. Describing it like the flu x6, he has been there during the final moments of many that have attained and ultimately succumbed to the virus. The downplay of the virus to the extent of its capabilities has never been demonstrated by him like we have seen from other sources. But to the same point, the true paranoia sweeping the nation was never part of his mentality either.

I consider his view on this more of a realist. COVID is bad, it can be lethal, and it isn’t the mortality rate that should be alarming. My interpretation of the information I have gathered from him is that our alarms should be more concerned with the long term look out for COVID, and it’s long-term effects on those who contract it. We simply do not know.

This past week I asked him a question, and I admit, I feel bad because I think he believes I was setting him up for something, but I asked “As a Q Follower and Trump Supporter, why did you get the vaccine?” His response originated with the scenario of being with many in their final moments. The outcome could be scary. But then we got a little more to the political side where he exclaimed the vaccines are the greatest voodoo trick in history. The news of the delta variant and its immunity to those with the vaccine have given an ammunition like argument to those who are against the need to vaccinate.

It isn’t so much that his belief is a red versus blue one, but one that circles back to the fear of the unknown. People will choose facts to believe that are aligned with their views, sometimes consciously and sometimes sub-consciously. But the immediate rush and push for a vaccine to be developed and released was in complete favor when Operation Warp Speed was in progress. However, we forget things like the simple truth of like a flu shot, the COVID vaccine is a hope. It is a hope to prevent the spread of this virus any further. It is a hope that if you contract COVID, the symptoms will be milder and hopefully not lethal. And like the flu shot, you could get a shot that has a fight against influenza A and B is the strain you catch… this is like that in my eyes. Now, I am no scientist. I have no reason to believe the vaccine wouldn’t act as intended, the problem is, people are over glorifying it’s intention, and putting it as some sort of divine miracle to kill and cure all. This ammunition allows for the claims- er fears- that the vaccine doesn’t work. People claiming their rights are trampled by organizations requiring vaccines for entry or employment. Using slogans like “my body, my choice,” to lead their rebellion against inoculation.

I wish everyone would get vaccinated and see where things go. But I do respect the right not to get inoculated. A slogan that I feel was born to mock those who are pro choice, ironically should have the same protected right, and we should have the right to avoid or demand distance from those who chose not to get vaxed.

There are some people who legitimately cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons, or even faith-based reasons. I do not hold ill will towards them or their right to follow their faith, though it is unfortunate. However, those who deny the shot solely based on a political based argument or paranoia belief related to any of the many conspiracy theories are what the problem is. I know several people who want the shot, but wont get it out of some sort of fear that because it came so quick, it isn’t as effective as it should be or it isn’t proven long enough to determine any adverse effects. But they are also not screaming from the mountain tops to avoid vaccination, and they certainly are adhering to other precautionary measures.

I am at the point where I only believe what I believe. All of us can connect the dots on things that find the peeled onion of why if we really want to, but I would rather just live my life and stand up for what matters for me and my family. If the vaccine works and is effective, the upside is far greater than waiting to see if no vaccine fails. What it really all comes down to is Darwinism at it’s finest. We are all going to check out someday, whether we believe it is God’s plan, our destiny or scientific (medical) reasons that do us in, the strongest will survive.
