Brock Lesnar Surgery: UFC CAREER ENDER
Brock Lesnar had surgery done last Friday at the Mayo Clinic to take out a foot-long portion of his colon due to his ongoing fight with diverticulitis. Lesnar is expected to be out of action until at January 2012 the earliest. It is also expected that this will push back his planned book signing tour for his autobiography Death Clutch.
UFC President Dana White confirmed at last night’s UFC 130 Prelims on Spike TV that Lesnar underwent surgery on Friday for his most recent battle with the intestinal ailment. “Brock Lesnar had surgery,” White revealed last night. “They removed about 12 inches of his colon, and they repaired it. He says he feels great. He said he’s a little sore, but the operation was a huge success. We’re hoping that he can be back by the first of the year. He’s excited to recover and get back in the UFC.”
Lesnar’s original bout with the disease forced him to already take a year away from the sport between 2009-2010 and also has forced him to consider retirement. It recently flared up again and forced him out of a planned bout with his opposing The Ultimate Fighter 13 coach Junior dos Santos at UFC 131 next month.
Shane Carwin will take Lesnar’s place against dos Santos, with the winner of that bout likely going on to face UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. UFC 131 will take place on June 11, 2011 from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
