Foo-Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins: Gone 2 Soon

By Janet Grace

“And good ol’ boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye singin’ this’ll be the day that I die.”¹

Today’s Old Folks refuse to age. Instead, we reach the age of 30 and turn the hour glass on its head, starting the clock again. 50 years old is really our second 20’s and way too young for death’s knock.

Taylor Hawkins crossed over on March 26th, 2022 at the age of 50. The world lost a multi talented session musician; his wife, Alison, lost her best friend and his children, Oliver, 16, Annabelle, 13 and Everleigh, 8, lost their Dad.

Back in 1997, Hawkins was touring with Alanis Morissette when his good friend and colleague, David Groll, called to ask if he knew a guy that could jump in as the new Foo-Fighters drummer, following the departure of drummer William Goldsmith.

Hawkins recommended himself instead and the rest is history.

Police in Columbia were quick to tarnish his memory with their suspected worst case scenario; that it may have been drug related, instead of simply stating that Taylor Hawkins’ sudden death was an ongoing investigation awaiting for the coroner’s report. Hawkins complained of chest pains prior to his having been found unresponsive. It may have simply been a heart attack. The facts are yet, unknown.

The band was on tour in Colombia, scheduled to play at a festival, when they released this statement announcing the heartbreaking news on their Twitter page: “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins.

“His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.

“Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Today, we pay homage to Taylor Hawkins, and thank him for the many years, many grooves and the love he left us with. We send our heart-felt condolences to his wife, children and family.
