Brigitte Bardot, Legendary French Movie Star & Animal Rights Activist Dead at 91 – Entertainment News

A French Legend Gone.

Brigitte Bardot died on 28 December. She was 91.

She played Dirk Bogarde’s love interest in “Doctor at Sea”, a big hit in the UK in 1955.

Bardot shot to international fame in 1956 with “And God Created Woman”, written and directed by her then husband, Roger Vadim.

In the early 1960s, she appeared in high-profile French movies, including Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Oscar-nominated drama “The Truth”, Louis Malle’s “Very Private Affair” (opposite Marcello Mastroianni) and Jean-Luc Godard’s “Contempt”.

In America she became famous starring in movies like “Act of Love” with Kirk Douglas and “Shalako” with Sean Connery,

After retiring from movies at age 39 in 1973, her primary focus became animal welfare activism, joining protests against seal hunts in 1977 and establishing the Brigitte Bardot Foundation in 1986. She sent letters of protest to world leaders over issues such as dog extermination in Romania, dolphin killing in the Faroe Islands and cat slaughter in Australia.

Brigitte Bardot is survived by her son Nicolas.
