Another great actor gone.
Isiah Whitlock Jr., a veteran character actor, died on Tuesday, 30 December in New York. He was 71.
He was known for his portrayal as corrupt State Sen. R. Clayton “Clay” Davis on all five seasons of “The Wire”.
He also had a recurring role as secretary of Defense Gen. George Maddox on “Veep”.
Whitlock had a long relationship with Spike Lee and appeared in six of his movies: “25th Hour”, “She Hate Me”, “Red Hook Summer”, “Chi Raq”, “BlacKkKlansman” and “Da 5 Bloods”.
It was in “25th Hour” that he first introduced what would become his signature phrase, ‘Sheeeeeit,” his own interpretation of the word “shit” which he used in “The Wire” when possible.
His last TV role was as the Chief of Police opposite Uzo Aduba on Netflix’s White House murder mystery “The Residence”.
