Jimmy Lange is Back September 10th! – RSR Goes One on One with the Former Contender Star

Exclusive Interview by Marc Anthony

“Fireworks Baby! Not to be grim, but we will give 9/11 a proper tribute we will set off our own bombs.” – Jimmy Lange

Jimmy Lange, 36-4-2, 24 KO’s, steps back into the ring this Saturday night at the Patriot Center to face tough and experienced veteran Raul ‘El Toro” Munoz. As many of the RSR readers already know, Jimmy starred in The Contender series showcasing his personality and fighting style that helped him become a fan favorite of boxing fans across the United States. .

RSR caught up with Jimmy just days before his fight and like always, he was open and a “Quote Machine.”

MA: What do you think an ideal fight against Raul will look like?

I think it’s a classic kind of a boxer against a brawler type of fight. What I know about him is he comes to fight and he comes forward. I have the height advantage on him and I’m looking to box him. If that sets up other shots then fine. If not, I am in terrific shape and I can do it all night long.

MA: In the past the fighters have done Meet and Greets at past events with War Veterans, is that something that will happen for this card?

We are pretty close to the Wounded Warriors obviously being that it’s September 10th the eve of such a tragic day. We are definitely going to pay a tribute and do something for the veterans.

MA: The undercard has a lot of exciting fighters is that something done by design?

I think so. It’s not really my area, but you try to give the fans their monies worth. It only makes sense to have an exciting night of fights. This came out very well, but they still have to fight. I have seen a ton of fights that look great on paper that turned out to be stinkers. What we have built here is a pretty good product and without blowing my own horn, I always come to fight. It’s always kind of a throwback type of fight usually with me where it’s a war and people respond to that. You are not going get a lot of repeat customers if they come and fall asleep.

MA: Who is the team behind Jimmy Lange?

Well, officially its Ice Promotions but you have me, my father (my manager), Jackie Kallen, whom I know you know, is a very big part of us. JD Brown helps with the match making. Jimmy Glenn and I have had several great trainers and it’s really a good team effort there is not a lot of ego’s. We try to get the job done and we all have one common thread and that’s our love for boxing. I think we have done a heck of a job despite naysayers in bringing it to an area where boxing is not prevalent and we have done that.

MA: This is your third fight this year; does it get harder to dial in by the third time?

I am a pro and that means you do what you have to do to get the best out of yourself. I know what I am doing. When I need to rest, I rest. When I need to push a little harder, I push harder. I’ve done this long enough that I know myself. There is no blueprint for boxers. The best thing a boxer can do is to know himself. You need to know your aches and pains, along with ability/capability, and know where you are at.

MA: You recently reunited with Sugar Ray Leonard in a movie titled Five Good Years; can you talk a little bit about that?

That was an opportunity that kind of just fell into my lap. You meet people and he is the Director of that particular movie. He said he liked my look and he liked I was kind of gritty type of a guy and he thought I would be good for that part. Actually my part, it’s a boxing movie, but I have nothing to do with the boxing part of it. I welcome that. You never know what the future is going to bring.

MA: I don’t like to ask for predictions on their own fights but I would like to know how do you see the Floyd Mayweather, JR. vs. Victor Ortiz fight playing out?

Ortiz vs. Mayweather… I see Mayweather schooling Ortiz. I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way toward Ortiz because. Ortiz is a guy you got to love. Ortiz was at the bottom of the barrel when he quit and this guy came back to glory. But I don’t see him dealing with Mayweather.

MA: What can a live crowd expect at your event Jimmy Lange vs. Raul Munoz on September 10th?

Fireworks Baby! Not to be grim, but we will give 9/11 a proper tribute we will set off our own bombs.
