Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker Returns to Boxing Saturday Night

On Saturday night, November 22, Undercard Promotions makes its promotional debut with “Fight Night Live” at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, TX. “Fight Night Live” is headlined by undefeated junior welterweight, Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (15-0-2, 11 KOs), and features the debut of Cedric Agnew’s younger brother and amateur standout, featherweight Frankie Agnew.

“We are doing things a little differently. We are trying to boxing back to Dallas by building a new audience in concert with a reality show. Through our reality show and our live shows, we hope to acquire the types of sponsors that can make boxing a major sport in Dallas,” said Arnie Verbeek, vice president of Undercard Promotions.

Based in Dallas, Undercard Promotions is a boxing promotion company organized to promote live fights as well as produce and distribute a multi-part reality TV series and fights on television with partners, KDAF-TV and KXTX-TV. The Undercard reality series is dedicated to Dallas boxers from the inside out. The series chronicles six fighters on their journey into the ring, where they train, how they live and their never-ending dream to become the next world champion. After several episodes focusing on what it takes to get ready for a professional boxing match, Undercard Promotions and its fighters are ready to debut in the ring on November 22.

“I’ve fought on TV before and proven that I’m an entertaining fighter who can bang and compete with anyone. Now, I’m hoping this show brings the attention I need to get a title shot in the next year,” said the show’s most accomplished pro, undefeated junior welterweight, Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker.

Although Hooker is clearly the show’s most established pro and a frontrunner to be 2015’s breakout prospect of the year, featherweight Frankie Agnew just might be the show’s star.

“Frankie’s got the kind of feel-good story you only hear about in the movies, and the cameras love him for that. What everyone’s going to find out on November 22 is that the kid can really fight too,” said Vince Parra, Frankie’s trainer.

Frankie Agnew started boxing at age five in his parents’ garage on Chicago’s south side with his brother and current light heavyweight contender, Cedric “L.O.W.” Agnew (27-1, 14 KOs). Frankie’s been boxing and winning ever since. Frankie has won five junior Olympic championships; been a two-time national runner up; was ranked second in the nation; was on the junior world team; was a four time regional champion and was heading to the nationals in 2013 before he got into legal troubles.
After being released from prison in July, Frankie began learning from and living with his manager in order to get his career back on track. In Chicago, he worked with his boxing trainer, Art Davis, and strength and conditioning coach, Michael Vale. In his new hometowns of Dallas and San Diego, Frankie trains full-time with Vince Parra and his strength and conditioning coach, Manny Hernando.
“What sets me apart is that I’m unlike anything you’ve ever seen in and out of the ring. I will become a three-division world champion, a hall of famer and a great person. I will never forget where I came from and after I make it, I will help bring others with me,” said Frankie Agnew.
In addition to Hooker and Agnew, “Fight Night Live” at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas features the following fighters in separate bouts: Enver Halili (6-0, 2 KOs), welterweight; Anthony Mack (11-1, 6 KOs), super middleweight; Thomas Smith (Debut), super featherweight; and Fernando Garcia (Debut), super featherweight.
