Juergen Braehmer Stops Pawel Glazewski in Under a Minute – Boxing News
By Lou Eisen
In the end, it didn’t last very long at all. Juergen Braehmer 45-2, 33 KO’s only needed 43 seconds to successfully defend his WBA world light-heavyweight title by way of knockout over his overmatched foe from Poland, Pawel Glazewski, 23-3, 5 KO’s, at the EWE-Arena in Oldenburg, Niedersachsen, Germany.
In fact, Braehmer’s elaborate musical ring intro (replete with a live band singing his praises) lasted much longer than the fight itself, never a good sign for the loser. The 36 year-old champion, who stands one half-inch over 5’11”, hails from Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, wasted no time in dispatching his vastly under skilled foe from Bialystok, Poland, once the bell rang to start the first round. The 32 year-old Glazewski is four years younger than Braehmer. He is also one inch shorter than the champ. The fight did not last long but Braehmer’s size and reach definitely came into play.
The defending champion used his size and strength to force Glazewski back into his (Braehmer’s) corner where he unloaded some hard head shots and then ended the fight suddenly by reaching around the challenger’s right elbow to land a vicious, picture perfect, Mexican left hook to the liver, forcing Glazewski to slowly sink to the canvas in agony. American referee Russell Mora tolled the ten count over Glazewski, who was writhing in pain on the mat. The count was nothing more than a mere formality.
The only two well-known names on Glazewski’s ledger are Tomasz Adamek (whom he beat in 2010) and Roy Jones Jr., who beat Glazewski by split decision in Poland in 2012. Of course, what you did in the past matters little in professional boxing. You are only as good as your latest fight; solely using that criteria, Braehmer can legitimately say that he is still a world champion in every sense of the world. Glazewski on the other hand, is unlikely to ever again challenge for a world title. He was simply out of his depth, out of his element, and, in less than a minute, out of the fight.
