By Packy “Boom Boom” Goldstein
Oy Vay are you going to hear it today…. 85 and alive! But at times, I wonder are all the aches and pains associated with Americans living longer really worth it? I have seen so many people I love and care for get sick or pass on in the last few years and though I will always have my memories, to say it doesn’t affect ole “Boom Boom”, would be a lie…. The older I get, the more I miss my pal Al and there are many days that my heart breaks for the most loyal SOB that ever walked the face of the earth. I will say this before I go on to the boxing topics.
If you are blessed to have just one “TRUE FRIEND”, as I was to have Al Berkwitt, in my life as my closest friend, than pal, you truly have been blessed…
Floyd Mayweather, JR. – Manny Pacquiao II… I keep hearing rumors Floyd is coming out of retirement and let me cut it off right now. Stay retired Mayweather, JR. your first fight was the worst fight I have ever seen for $100.00 clams! Pacquiao you also need to retire already!
Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.. Straight to the point, comes off the canvas and stops Lemieux in round 5.
Roberto Duran… Was there a tougher SOB even with the “No Mas” debacle! I truly wish he were fighting today.
Alan Ladd… One of the most underrated actors of all time… Here are my top five Ladd movies.
5. The Carpetbaggers
4. 13th West Street
3. The Badlanders
2. This Gun For Hire
1. Shane
My Pal Al…. Al marched with the Martin Luther King, JR. during the famous “March on Washington” August of 1963. It was one of his proudest moments in a life filled with him fighting for so many different people’s human rights. Just one of many things I admired about him!
The Chutzpah Award… The Chutzpah Award is posthumously awarded to Martin Luther King, JR. who still to this day, gives me chills watching his old speeches on PBS. He wanted only good for this world of ours, and was shot down senselessly in April of 68. Gone, but never forgotten…
