Danny “Swift” Garcia Vs Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero: PBC on FOX Saturday Night

DG RGBy “The Commissioner” Alan J. Kindred

This Saturday night on network television station FOX, two featured bouts between RSR ranked Welterweight contenders will take place.

RSR #20 Sammy Vasquez, 20-0, 14 KO’s, from Monessen, Pennsylvania, USA, will take on RSR #10 Aaron Martinez, 20-4-1, 4 KO’s, from East Los Angeles, California, USA, by way of Mexico in a 10 round bout. Vasquez has found nothing but success so far in his career, but he meets a gritty and determined spoiler type in Martinez. Martinez is 2-3 in his last 5 fights, but those numbers are misleading, since 2 of those defeats were controversial, to Robert Guerrero and Jesse Vargas. Many observers felt the hard luck Martinez should have won decisions in both of those bouts. Finally, Martinez came through in a big way defeating the highly regarded Devon Alexander in his last bout. At 34 can Martinez keep his late career surge going against the undefeated Vasquez?

RSR #8 Danny Garcia, 31-0, 18 KO’s, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, will take on RSR #11 Robert Guerrero, 33-3-1, 18 KO’s, from Gilroy, California, USA in a 12 round bout with an alphabet world title at stake.

Garcia has been criticized in recent times for either taking easy fights and or winning “gift” decisions. He was, just over 2 years ago, in the good graces of most fans and boxing pundits when he defeated highly regarded Lucas Matthysse. After that victory Garcia was viewed as one of the best in the sport, a well-rounded fighter who was willing to face anyone in the sport. Just one fight later against Mauricio Herrera we would win a close decision in a fight most people felt he lost, as the pesky and clever Herrera just seemed to have Garcia’s number, offsetting his rhythm and beating him to the punch with his jab most of the night. Then he would face Rod Salka in a ridiculous mismatch, and many felt Herrera must have shaken Garcia’s confidence. Next Garcia would fight Lamont Peterson getting another close win in another fight most observers felt he lost. He would then target Paulie Malignaggi, who while a name in the sport, was seen by many to be past his prime by a considerable margin.
