2012 U.S. Olympian and undefeated Welterweight, Errol “The Truth” Spence, JR., 19-0, 16 KO’s is set to take on Chris Algieri, 21-2, 8 KO’s, on April 16th 2016 at the Barclays Center in Algieri’s backyard of Brooklyn, New York. Chris who has fought 3 of his last 4 fights at the Barclay Center will definitely be the toughest opposition young Spence has faced. Algieri who is no stranger to battling top competition has been in with, Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan and Ruslan Provodnikov in three of his last 4 fights.

The native New Yorker won a world title at 140 pounds in 2014 with a decision over Ruslan Provodnikov. Algieri went on to fight Manny Pacquiao later that year. Algieri was clearly outclassed by the Filipino superstar and future hall of famer as he was knocked down six times in that bout and wasn’t remotely competitive. Algieri then fought Amir Khan in May of 2015 and lost a close decision. That was Algieri’s first fight with trainer John David Jackson, and in comparison to past fights Chris showed a more aggressive fighting style.

Although Algieri has been in the ring with some world class fighters Chris will be a huge underdog when he faces Spence, JR. Errol on the other hand will have all of the boxing world’s eyes on him, as he’ll be headlining a PBC card for the first time in his young professional career. The winner of the contest will be the IBF mandatory challenger to champion Kell Brook. Spence who is touted as one of the brightest prospects in the Welterweight division has looked superb in his last few fights and has knocked out his last 5 opponents.

Spence who is somewhat of a boxing “Urban Legend” gained notoriety for giving Floyd Mayweather, JR. a black eye as he was heading into his 2013 fight with Robert Guerrero, and then for reportedly knocking out Adrien Broner during a sparring session, is now set to take the big stage under the bright New York Lights. For Errol I feel his weakness may be his lack of defense, but with Algieri’s lack of power, Spence, JR. has the skills, strength, and overall ring generalship that should help him easily defeat Algieri.

This fight should be entertaining and bring plenty of action to the fight fans but at the end of the day I predict “The Truth” will prevail by staying one step ahead of Algieri.

The co-feature will feature Krzysztof Glowacki making the first defense of his WBO cruiserweight title against former champion Steve Cunningham. The fight against Glowacki will be Cunningham’s first cruiserweight bout since 2012. The Philadelphian twice held the IBF Cruiserweight title, but then jumped up to heavyweight for bigger paydays. Glowacki was involved in an instant classic with Marco Huck last August, and his fight with “USS” Cunningham may in fact steal the show again.
